Treatments for all ages

Early Treatment

The American Association of Orthodontists (AAO) recommends that all children have a check-up with an orthodontist by the time they reach age 7, for early detection of any potential problems. By the age 7, some of the permanent teeth have erupted, so that most children have a mix of adult and baby teeth. At this stage of mixed dentition, an orthodontist can spot potential orthodontic problems related to jaw growth and eruption of adult teeth. Some growth-related orthodontic problems are easier to correct when they are identified early…while the facial bones are still growing.

Teen Patients

Most orthodontic problems are ideally treated during this time. Usually, all or most permanent teeth are erupted and patients are at one of their most active phases of growth. This is a great time to correct most problems, as the jaws are actively growing and their growth can be most easily modified during this time. One of the goals at Ashburn Orthodontics is to time treatment so that the treatment can be accomplished in a single phase. This helps to keep treatment as efficient as possible, thus reducing the overall costs to the patient.

Adult Patients

Orthodontics is not just for children. Healthy teeth can be moved at any age, and it is never too late to improve your smile. Ashburn Orthodontics offers many innovative options in braces for adults, including clear/ceramic braces, lingual braces, and Invisalign®. These options allow for faster movement of teeth translating to shorter treatment times. Many of our treatments are invisible or barely noticeable, ensuring the patient’s social comfort while undergoing treatment. The results are highly predictable, you will love your new smile.

Traditional braces

Traditional braces have come a long way over the years, becoming sleeker, smaller, and more comfortable. And that’s certainly something to smile about! Traditional braces consist of standard metal brackets that are adhered to your teeth with an adhesive and connected by wire. They require periodic tightening so pressure can gradually straighten your teeth and align your jaw as needed.

Ceramic braces

Is a modeling or public speaking career in the works? Ceramic braces provide the “clear” option to metal braces. Small, aesthetic, and comfortable, they will provide all the benefits of braces but are very hard to notice. Do not be surprised if your family and friends cannot tell you have them on. Speak to us about what we can offer.

Incognito

Incognito™ Hidden Braces are a unique orthodontic treatment option featuring customized braces placed on the back side of the teeth where they are completely hidden from view. Since they are completely customized for you, Incognito Hidden Braces offer many treatment options. Incognito Hidden Braces can treat nearly any orthodontic issue, while Incognito Lite Hidden Braces are specially designed to fix just your "social six" - the teeth that are visible at the front of your mouth.

Invisalign®

Having straight teeth is important not only for children, but for adults as well. As we grow older, our teeth tend to grow inward, creating crowding – a common problem for many teens and adults.Invisalign treatment is a technique that straightens your teeth without braces, using a series of clear, removable aligners that are custom-modeled to fit your teeth. The virtually invisible aligners gradually reposition your teeth into a smile you’ll be proud of.

Invisalign® teen

Invisalign Teen offers the same great advantages as the original Invisalign with some added features that focus on teens. Invisalign Teen still straightens teeth using a set of removable clear aligners. Invisalign teen includes a compliance indicator to show your doctor and parents if you wear your aligner the required number of hours to achieve the best results. With Invisalign Teen, you also get a satisfaction guarantee that allows you to switch to traditional braces at no additional cost within the first six months of beginning treatment.

Sleep apnea

Are you or a loved one unable to get a good night’s sleep because of a sleep breathing disorder such as snoring or sleep apnea?People with sleep apnea simply stop breathing while asleep. EHealth problems such as high blood pressure, heart disease, heart attack, arrhythmias, ADHD, stroke, and an enlarged heart can be caused or made worse by sleep apnea. The good news is snoring and sleep apnea can often be treated non-surgically. Dr. Kortam at Ashburn Orthodontics offers a sleep apnea oral appliance for patients with mild to moderate sleep apnea.

Retainers

To ensure your brand new smile lasts forever, Dr. Kortam might ask you to wear a retainer a few hours a day. This retainer is usually a clear plastic tray (similar to Invisalign clear aligners) that should be worn when sleeping to keep teeth in the correct position after treatment. It doesn’t interfere with your everyday life, and once you get used to it, you won’t even notice you are wearing the retainer!
